📖 Audio Glossary

Soundscape

The total acoustic environment of a location — all sounds present, natural and artificial, that create the sonic identity of a place.

A soundscape includes: biophony (animal sounds), geophony (wind, water, weather), and anthropophony (human-made sounds — traffic, music, voices). In audio production, soundscape design creates immersive environments for film, games, and VR by layering ambient recordings, Foley effects, and spatial audio.

Soundscape recording: capturing the ambient character of a location using stereo or ambisonic microphones. Used in: film location sound, game audio asset creation, and relaxation/meditation content. The concept of 'acoustic ecology' studies the relationship between living beings and their soundscape environment.
