Boomy

Excessive, resonant bass concentrated in a narrow frequency range — often caused by room modes, creating a 'one-note' bass.

Boomy bass is the most common complaint in home studios. A single bass frequency (typically 80–150 Hz in small rooms) is reinforced by a room mode, making every bass note that hits that frequency sound twice as loud as others. The result: you cannot judge bass levels accurately and your mixes sound thin everywhere except your room.

Fix: bass traps in corners, repositioning the listening position away from walls, and using room correction DSP. Moving your desk even 6 inches can dramatically change bass response.
