Bass

The lowest part of the audible frequency spectrum (20–250 Hz) — provides the foundational rhythm and weight of music.

Bass frequencies are omnidirectional (humans cannot localize them) and require significantly more amplifier power and speaker displacement to reproduce than higher frequencies. This is why subwoofers exist — a dedicated large driver for bass reproduction.

In mixing, bass management is critical: too much bass makes a mix sound muddy; too little makes it sound thin. Bass traps and proper monitor placement are essential for accurate bass perception in home studios.
